Kootenay Agroforesty Society (KAS) is the licencee of Crown Woodlot 494.
Selection logging in mixed west kootenay timber types and terrain.
Both cable and conventional logging in community and domestic watersheds.

Small scale gentle forestry on 600 ha area based tenure.
Annual Allowable cut 1400 cubic meters a year. (~40 Logging truck loads)
Primarily a volunteer operated organization with some hired consultation.
Activities range from paperwork: Management Plans, Woodlot licence Plans, Cutting and Road building permits, Annual Reports. Logging and road layout and building, tree planting, invasive weed control, spacing brushing, surveying (waste and residue, forest health, timber cruising), GPS, GIS.,public education: mushroom growing workshops, woodlot tours, forestry mentoring through apprenticeships and university practicums.
